3. AI Reviewer
AI Reviewer is an automated screening assistant that becomes a team member in your review once activated. You will see it listed in:
- Overview → Members table
- Team Progress
- Review Chat updates
It screens articles on your behalf using the criteria you define, helping accelerate your review process.
How It Works
Once activated, AI Reviewer automatically begins screening all articles according to your Inclusion and Exclusion Criteria from the Overview stage.
Its progress and status updates will appear in the Review Chat, including:
- Pending
- In Progress
- Finished Successfully
- AI Reviewer not only provides Include/Exclude decisions but also adds a note explaining the reasoning, helping you understand the basis of each decision.
How to Check the Results
- Go to the Screening page
- Enable AI Reviewer from the top bar to activate.
- Choose the Data source that you want the AI Reviewer to screen.
- Turn OFF Blind Mode
- AI Reviewer’s Include/Exclude decisions will appear directly in the article list
4. AI Analyzer
AI Analyzer provides a deeper, criteria-based evaluation of your articles. It:
- Recommends Include / Exclude decisions
- Generates justification notes explaining the reasoning
- Uses the Inclusion and Exclusion Criteria you defined in the Overview stage
- Helps you quickly understand why an article may or may not fit your review criteria
Note: AI Analyzer does not replace your decisions—it assists you by providing transparent, criteria-driven insights.
How to Check the Results
- Go to the Screening stage
- Select one or multiple articles using the multi-select tool.
-
Click Analyze in the action toolbar
-
AI Analyzer will generate:
- An Include or Exclude recommendation
- A justification notes explaining how the criteria were applied
- The results will appear directly in each article’s details panel
You can review, accept, or delete the AI’s suggestions at any time.
5. Auto Extraction
Auto Extraction identifies structured information from your articles by using the questions you define in the Data Extraction stage.
The system analyzes the full text -when available- to extract relevant answers and present them in a structured way.
Auto Extraction can only run after articles are added to the Data Extraction stage and your questions have been created.
How to Check the Results
-
Go to the Data Extraction stage
Add articles to this stage and define your extraction questions.
Learn more about Data Extraction here. -
Click “Extract Data”
This begins the manual extraction process. -
Click “Auto Extraction”
You will see an Auto Extraction button at the top of the Data Extraction panel. Rayyan will analyze the PDFs and metadata to find answers relevant to each question you added. -
Review the extracted answers
- The system highlights the relevant text it found inside the PDF or article
- You can review each extracted answer and expand it for more context
- Multiple sources may be shown when applicable
- You can manually refine or add additional answers if needed
- The system highlights the relevant text it found inside the PDF or article
Auto Extraction relies entirely on the extraction questions you constructed, so the clarity and specificity of your questions directly influence the quality of answers.
