Duplicate Detection, Resolution and Reporting
As soon as you upload a new search to Rayyan, it will trigger a duplicate detection algorithm on all of your articles in the current review. After few minutes, Rayyan will display a special icon beside each article that has a possible duplicate. When you expand the details for those articles, you will have the option to accept the duplicate and delete it, or reject it and keep it as a separate article.
On the left panel, under the "Duplicates" box, you'll see several statistics:
- Unresolved: These are entries that have been detected as potential duplicates but not resolved by you
- Deleted: These are all duplicates that you deleted
- Not duplicates: These are all entries that you decided are not duplicates
- Resolved: These are all the entries that have been kept with no duplicates
- "n" exact matches: These are all the entries that have been repeated n times from all your searches; these are automatically reduced to one entry

user17471: It would be great if we could see the potential duplicates side by side rather than 'stacked' so you have to scroll to compare them. Or there could be an expand option in the top article list box, where you see the titles, dates and authors of both potential duplicates, as this will be sufficient to resolve many.

user27446: is there a way to label or delete a duplicate in the system that has not been detected?

You can simply put a label saying this is a duplicate. But there is no way to delete duplicates not detected by the Rayyan's algorithm. Note that these labels will only be seen by other collaborators if the blind is off. Blinding blocks labels and notes from view as part of the effort to minimize risk of bias.

user28862: Hi,
I don't understand what is 'n' exact matches. I saw your explanation above but it is still unclear for me. Can you help me ? maybe by giving me an example ?
Thanks in advance

Hi Gilles,
It simply means that in the file(s) that you have uploaded to Rayyan the same exact reference was repeated n times. If I upload a file with two references
"%0 Journal Article
%T Rayyan—a web and mobile app for systematic reviews

%A Hammady, Hossam

%A Elmagarmid, Ahmed

one of them will be automatically delete.

user16066: Hi,
I have some troubles with duplicates. Indeed, I uploaded my files but the special icon beside each article that marks the records as possible duplicates doesn't appear. Therefore, I don't see neither the delete nor the resolve button.
Please, can you help me?
Thanks!

Hi,
In that case, it's possible that Rayyan wasn't able to detect any duplicates.

122141: Hello,
Is there a way to delete all duplicates at once instead of checking them one by one?
Thanks!

How long does the detect duplicates function last? I've made numerous attempts and they spend hours without completing the detection. The database has 778 articles.

Hi!
Thanks for all the previous info. Is it possible to go back with the decision we make about duplicates?
I accidentally indicate that a duplicate was not a duplicate but it actually is.0 -
Why are some records blank - I see title, date and author but nothing else. No abstract, etc. My import was from Mendeley.
